This is a brown sheepskin shearling change purse. This measures 5″ wide and 3.5″ tall. This is from FINLAND! More specifically from a finnsheep farm there, Stentorp. Design by Jill Christiansen.
Some history: The Point of View Farm Finnsheep flock can trace it’s flock genetics back to Stentorp finnsheep. Almost every sheep in the Point of View Farm Finnsheep flock can trace back to a brown ram that was born on their farm decades ago. How do we know? Because we have an extensive database of pedigrees that trace our sheep back 15-20 generations and some of them even more. Finnsheep have been in America over 40 years
In 2019, the Point of View Farm shepherds went to Stentorp while we were in Finland visiting our Finnish family. It was so exciting to see that their finnsheep, which are highly selected for wool traits, look just like many of our flock members also selected for wool traits. It was an honor to compare notes and share their love of Finnsheep with these legendary shepherds who spearheaded the finewool finnsheep project in Finland.
While staying at Stentorp, we purchased several of Jill’s farm products to sell in the US alongside our Point of View Farm Finnsheep items. You can buy these in Helsinki and at select markets from Jill but, not in America, until now. Your purchases help support their farm. Jill was thrilled to have her beautiful designs available in America. In 2019, one of her sweaters won first place in the Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool festival fiber arts competition. 2019 was the year finnsheep were the featured breed.
As a finnsheep farm, we very much like to support other farms, like Stentorp, that have a mission aligned with our own. We feel we are all more successful together than individually and this is why these items are available through Point of View Farm. Jill and Heikki feel like extended Finnish family to us. If you scroll through the images here you can see Jill and Heikki with the Stentorp flock. Yes, those are lambs in the boat with Heikki. After we evaluated their fiber, he took them to graze on a nearby island for the day with the help of his border collie.
