Rainbow Drop Spindle, 3.8 ounces, Mercury

Handmade original top whorl rainbow drop spindle made by Point of View Farm. I love to drop spindle and I wanted a pretty spindle to work with and came up with this idea. Others liked them too. Kristy Glass bought one for herself and her daughter. They spin for a long time.

The whorl is resin which is colored carefully by hand, then turned on a lathe to balance. It will handle the bumps that drop spindles receive in the course of use. The hardwood shaft is individually hand turned and then fit to the individual whorl.

This particular spindle weighs 3.8 ounces and is 10.5 inches in overall height. I have called this one Mercury. It is a heavier spindle so suitable for plying or a spinner who wants to make bulkier yarns.
