This is a beautiful natural light grey 80% Finnsheep and 20% Mulberry Silk blend worsted weight yarn. It is a worsted weight 3 ply yarn, 230 yards…at least. Each skein weighs at least 4.2 ounces and most weigh even more. Suitable for knit, crochet, weaving weft or fulled felted projects. The grey has a warm brown tone to it as brown and tan wool was included in it’s make up. This yarn is a blend of our natural colored wool fleeces from Point of View Farm including a bunch of lamb’s wool too (think softness). The wool was carefully graded by me (an American Sheep Industry Certified Wool Classer) before being sent to the mill. Only the nice soft parts of the fleece are included. The 20% silk adds drape, strength as well as warmth. More on the silk later. It is a beautiful blend. We really are delighted with the ay this yarn came out.
The finnsheep wool in this yarn was bred, born, raised and shorn entirely at Point of View Farm Finnsheep. These ewes are specifically selected for top quality fiber to produce the most luxurious of yarns. Mulberry silk is the more expensive silk and a higher grade silk than you might find in a commercially available yarn. Quality is a speciality here at Point of View Farm.
The Point of View Farm finnsheep flock is pasture raised in the Hudson Valley region of New York and given the utmost in care and love. We know happy healthy sheep produce beautiful fiber. This wool was spun into yarn at a small US mill to our exact specifications. There will never be a match to this yarn as each year the yarn we produce is just a little different so there is a nice variety. Each year the color of the fleeces varies a little based on the lambs that were born….and some of it we dye. This yarn will dye up beautifully with lots of depth and dimension in the colors thanks to the warm tone and the silk in it.
The Point of View Finnsheep flock is raised as naturally as possible. That means we never dip our sheep in or pour pesticides on them. The pastures they graze are never treated with chemicals, only compost from our own farm. The mill uses mild soaps to clean the wool and not harsh processes. This keeps the wool soft and ‘healthy’ for your special project.
