This is a beautiful naturally grey 100% finnsheep wool yarn. It is a DK weight 2 ply, 300 yards and about 4 ounce skein. This is a lofty squishy yarn that we have made by saving the darkest grey fleeces here for several years. Technically these are called ‘blue” sheep due to the dark color patterning, Its REALLy recessive and we have just a handful of these individuals in our flock. I can’t tell you how many people saw these fleeces on the shelf and wanted to buy them. Many were winners at the county fair. In short, this is a special batch of yarn with gorgeous luster. Soft enough for me to wear next to my skin but, durable enough for sweaters and mittens. It will be our only new knitting yarn for 2025.
This wool was spun into yarn at a small US mill in Vermont to our specifications. We like a finger yarn for our projects so that is what we had made for this batch.
The Point of View Finnsheep flock is raised as naturally as possible. That means we never dip our sheep in or use ‘pour on’ pesticides on them…ever. The pastures they graze are never treated with synthetic chemicals. Only compost from our own farm. The mill uses mild soap to clean the wool and not harsh detergents. This keeps the wool soft, lofty and ‘healthy’ for your special project. I could go on and on about our natural approach to management but , I won’t here. Ask me though because I am happy to explain to those who are interested in management details.
From our family to yours…Enjoy.
