This yarn is a blend of 78% wool from 2 local farms and 22% bamboo top to add softness and luster. Wow, this is a winning blend. Not only was the wool very nice that went into it (over 50% was lambs wool) the mill that made it did a fabulous job. It is a worsted weight yarn. It would be soooo nice as a sweater or blanket project.
Each skein is 5.4 ounces and 320 yards. The sample yarn shown in washed BUT, the skeins you receive will not be as they are directly from the mill. We recommend washing if you want to knit with it as it is. If you are going to dye with it, just add a bit of soap to the dye bath and you are all set.
This yarn is also available on cones if you would like to purchase it that way (please see the other yarn products).
A bit of history: The shepherds I bought this wool from are friends of mine and I wanted to help them make yarn out of their wool clip, so I bought it! I figure the best way to support farms and shepherds you like is to buy their products. In any case, I got their wool and then, since I am a certified US wool classer, I classed and graded it for this project. I’m picky so it took some time. I chose only the nicest fleeces/ wool for this yarn. Then I drove it to a mill in NY, along with the bamboo, and talked with the mill operator about this yarn I wanted to make. It is delightful to see the finished result. We think you will think so too. Even though it does not have any finnsheep wool in it, we have our hands and effort all over this yarn just like it was our own wool!
