Do you love soft yarn? You may just have found a new favorite then. This finnsheep lamb yarn made from a selection of wool from lambs only. There is only ever one lamb fleece in the lifetime of a sheep and fiber artisans know it is special stuff. Each 100% wool 3 ply skein is 240 yards and 2.8-3.0 ounces. It is a soft warm grey color from the naturally colored lambs.
The lamb’s wool in this yarn was raised at Point of View Farm. They who are specifically bred for top quality fiber to produce award winning fleeces. The flock is pasture raised in the Hudson Valley region of New York and given thoughtful care and love. We know happy healthy sheep produce beautiful fiber. This is even more so with lambs who are growing themselves as they grow their soft wool at the same time. This wool was spun to our specifications into yarn at a small US mill in New York. It has never left the Hudson Valley of NY! You may have also noticed the Hudson Valley Textile Project Tag on it. This organization recognizes regionally sourced and made fiber products. We are proud to be members and support what they do to create farm to fabric connections between Hudson Valley NY farmers, growers, manufacturers, processors and artisans.
A bit of history….The Point of View Finnsheep flock is raised as naturally as possible. That means we never dip our sheep in or use pour pesticides on them. We avoid all use of chemical treatments, preferring to do things the old fashioned way as our great grandparents did with their sheep. Additionally, the pastures they graze are never treated with chemicals…only compost from our own farm. The mill that makes the yarn uses mild soaps to clean the wool (not harsh detergents). This keeps the wool soft, lofty and ‘healthy’ for your special project.
