This is Aurora’s 2021 Raw Fleece. Her fleece was coated/ jacketed most of the year so is very low on VM (vegetable matter- hay, straw, grass from the pastures, etc..). I also skirted it myself. It weighs 2 pounds 8.6 ounces. Raw fleece means it has not been washed yet. Aurora’s fleece was carefully and professionally shorn by the shearer who has shorn the award winning fleeces at Rhinebeck and Maryland sheep and Wool fleece shows and sales for us (and others) for many years. He is gentle and kind with the sheep and the work in done in about 5 minutes. He does a nice careful shearing job.
Aurora was born at Point of View Farm in 2018. We love her curly fleece that has loads of crimp. The genetic agouti pattern that makes Aurora’s fleece this color is technically called Agouti dark blue so that is why you sometimes hear fleeces being referred to as “blue”. A brown badgerface is not only double recessive for color but also recessive for pattern. The white pattern is dominant to all others and that is where there are more white sheep than natural colored. The Point of View Farm flock decided to work with natural colored genetics over 12 years ago…when we started breeding finnsheep for top quality fiber. Our first two rams were grey and brown.
Aurora is a purebred registered finnsheep. Finnsheep fleece takes dye like a dream if you like to dye. I love dyeing these warm variegated fleeces in autumn shades…or purples. I love purples. This fleece includes shipping to you in the US. For international shipping, please contact us to get a quote
If you prefer washed wool for your project, please check out the Point of View Farm roving.
