FINNSHEEP LAMB Raw Fleece, Ocean 2022, 2 pounds 12 ounces, brown, free shipping

This is Ocean’s 2022 Raw Fleece. Ocean is a purebred finnsheep lamb that was coated/ jacketed most of the year. Very low on VM (vegetable matter- hay, straw, grass from the pasture). I dislike VM as much as the next spinner…in fact, maybe more so. I get a little ruthless about skirting and removing all wool that has VM in it so you are only getting nice wool with Point of View Farm fleeces….and not vm.  This fleece was even noted in my skirting notes as being exceptionally free of vm( there you go).  It weighs 2 pounds 12 ounces.

Raw fleece means it has not been washed yet so it will smell like a sheep and need washing either before or after spinning. The fleece was carefully and professionally shorn off Lambie New Zealand style (in a single piece) by a shearer who takes pride in his work, is careful, gentle and knows what he is doing. This shearer has shorn award winning fleeces at Rhinebeck and Maryland Fleece show and sales for many years for our farm and others. He has been shearing sheep for decades and is a good friend too. Check out the photo of it I took while it was on the skirting table after shearing. This is a full years growth of lamb wool.

Ocean was born at Point of View Farm in 2021. This is  her forst sdhearing.  A gorgeous crimpy finnsheep fleece that falls within the finer side of the breed standard for staple length, crimps per inch and micron (it is not lab tested however, I’m a certified wool classer so I have some experience here). Ocean is a darker brown or morrit color with sun bleached tips. In Finland they call this color Ruskea.  Lamb fleeces are generally the softest fleece a sheep will grow their entire lives. Ocean had her first lambs in February of 2021 and is a superb mother to them.  We are so thrilled.  Honest;y, we are thrilled a lot with these sheep.  They are really versatile and amazing creatures.  Growing wool really is a great superpower.

Finnsheep fleece takes dye like a dream and would also blend beautifully with other wools where you want to add luster and drape. This is a special fleece for a special project.
