This is Serendipity’s 2022 Raw Fleece. Her fleece was coated/ jacketed most of the year so is very low on VM (vegetable matter- hay, straw, grass from the pastures, etc..). I also skirted it myself. It weighs 2 pounds 14.7 ounces. Raw fleece means it has not been washed yet. The fleece was carefully and professionally shorn from Serendipity in a single piece New Zealand style.
Serendipity was born at Point of View Farm. We love her curly fleece that has loads of shine and curls like a long wool sheep. She has an atypical finnsheep fleece. Much more luster and lower in crimp than usually expected in finnsheep here. Her fleece was coated/ jacketed and heavily skirted so it is also REALLY clean. I mean that…almost no vm (vegetable matter like hay, straw and weed seeds) present. The luster is out of this world. If you want wool that glows and reflects the sunlight, this is it.
Serendipity is a registered brown badgerface sheep. She helps add genetic diversity to this double recessive color/pattern combination in the Point of View Farm flock. The genetic agouti pattern that makes Serendipity’s fleece this color is technically called Agouti dark blue so that is why you sometimes hear fleeces being referred to as “blue”. She is a grandma and great grandma to some of our younger finnsheep in the flock.
Serendipity is a purebred registered finnsheep and also quite friendly. She is a bit of a flock leader here. This fleece takes dye like a dream and would also blend beautifully with mohair as it has that high luster quality to it.
